Last night at the Bear household:
Baba bear: “The Earth will be swallowed up by the Sun in about 5 billion years from now.”
Baby bear (in a comforting tone): “No Baba bear, don’t worry yourself so much! New research says it will take another 7.5 billion years.”

This morning at the track:
Baba bear: “Excuse me. But are you walking? Remember the rule? You can’t walk till you are 50. You need to run till then.”
Baby bear (getting a big teardrop in her eye): “That’s not fair, Baba bear. You had earlier said I have to run till I am 40. You can’t make it 50 now. A deal’s a deal.”

I think we need a talk about perspective at some point soon. Because our sense of the magnitude of time is severely warped!

On an unrelated note, check out the new multi-coloured running shoes that Aji bought for us yesterday! ASICS, our favourite brand. Aren’t they wicked (that’s the new word we use when we want to say, ‘really nice’)? By the way, we convinced Aji to get a similarly colourful pair of runners for Baba bear too. He is too shy to wear them. But don’t worry, we’ll bring the old man around yet.

We love them. Baba bear is a little sceptical about the whole thing, having apprehensions that he may be mistaken for an escaped inmate from the nearby Yerawada Mental Asylum and may be apprehended and forcibly taken ‘back’ to the ‘Pagalkhana‘ for daring to wear these at 50.

So, while Baba bear loves new things (and even sleeps with the new purchases near his pillow, like he did for these shoes too), he may be rightly circumspect about this ‘dhinchak’ footwear.

Not to worry. We’ll make a fun dad out of him yet.
