Why is anyone surprised? These are the same people who display Babasaheb Ambedkar’s photos everywhere, even as they disrespect the Indian Constitution and proclaim that the Manusmriti has everything they need. These are the same people who worship a madman who first bowed to the Mahatma before shooting him. These are the same people who print Bhagat Singh’s image on their tees and call atheists and communists anti-nationals. These are the same people who use Inquilab Zindabad as a slogan and keep Umar Khalid in jail without bail. Without a shred of irony.
That said, the government has seriously miscalculated what a pissed-off farmer or ex-soldier can be capable of. And the Sikhs are literally both.
More power to the farmers, to the youth (yes, even the 80-years-young), and to our soldiers, both serving and former. I stand by them as they fight. Not just for them. But for this nation. For us. And our children.

Me: [Finding a subject worth talking about now]: ' Ah well, that's what we'll talk of tomorrow on your morning run. It's very interesting the way science is done and our understanding of the universe is expanded.'
Kym: 'Can we talk of unicorns instead?'
Me: 'Sure. How do you know they exist? That's an interesting question too that you can use the scientific method to answer.'
Kym: 'Do they have to exist for us to talk about them? We can just pretend they do for an hour and have fun.'
Me: [Laughing] 'Yes, sure. We can do that too.'
