The thief. The beard. And the blade of grass.

Modi Bhakt Aunty: ‘Kajol is herself uneducated. She has no right to denigrate our leader.’

Me: ‘But she does have the right. She is a citizen who is opining about the kind of leaders she wishes for. Everyone, including uneducated people, can exercise their choice about who will represent them. That’s literally what universal adult franchise means.’

MBA: You are just happy she said something against our beloved Modiji, aren’t you? All you anti-nationals like to cheer when anyone insults our great country.

Me: ‘I’d normally ask you why you’d mistake insulting Modi for insulting India? But that ship’s sailed. So, let me tell you that she did not mention any one specific politician. She has even clarified that she meant it as a general statement.’

MBA: ‘Who is she fooling? You think we are idiots? You think we are blind? Everybody knows that when she said “uneducated, visionless leader”, it was Modiji she was referring to. Who else could she be talking about?’

Me: ‘—-‘

MBA: ‘—-‘

Me: ‘—-‘

MBA: ‘What?

Me: ‘Nothing. Carry on. I have no argument. I concede.’

Napoleon did say (kind of) that we should never disturb an enemy when they are making a mistake. I bow to his wisdom.
