The Great Indian Escape Trick.

The probability that any random adult Indian, if given an opportunity to leave India, and if they have anywhere even within breathing distance of the wherewithal to achieve that, will not endeavour to leave this country are so low as to make no odds.

This is not speculation. This is the truth. And anybody who reads this knows this as well as any other random Indian.

I don’t know who said it first, but,

“The biggest achievement for any Indian is to leave India…”

Be it your driver, your project manager, your cricket captain (wink, wink), or even your favourite movie star (ahem!), there are very, very few departures from normal.

Of course, there are rare exceptions where people offered just such an opportunity have rejected it, or people who have already ‘achieved’ this by moving abroad have come back for good (without leaving again in frustration within a short span). But these are outliers. As I said, you know this as well as I do. Let us not pretend otherwise.

And when it comes to ‘abroad’, what better than the land of opportunities, the evergreen US of A, followed then by other ‘white-majority’ countries (the USA is like ‘earning’ an entry into a MBBS college; only those who cannot manage go on to Dentistry, or failing that Ayurveda, or then Homomeopathy, or finally, Nursing, the prospect of a BSC in Microbiology always being available for those who couldn’t even get in there!)? So, what’s all this fuss about illegal immigrants being served right being shackled on a 40-hour flight on a military plane back to India? And the nonsensical bristling virtue signalling about ‘they broke the law, they pay the price’? That’s just hypocrisy. The chances are that if you are a garden variety Indian, you break a dozen laws every day, not because you want to (that too, you naughty, naughty person) but also because of necessity, because of the way our laws have been written. So, stop with the righteous indignation already.

And now, tell me, with a hand on your heart, that you would not leave this country in a snap if you could, indeed if you had half a fucking chance. And I will, in most probability, show you a liar. Or a brainwashed idiot.

Not you, though. You are different. You love it here. You are not interested in greener pastures. You have everything you wish for right here. You are happy, thriving, and fulfilled. You have never once thought of leaving. In fact, even in your pitch deck, all your asks are in INR Crore, not in USD millions. I’m not talking of you.

Not you. Absolutely, definitely not. Not at all. I am talking about the others. Right, then. Nothing to see here. Move along.

BMKJ. PKMKB. VM. JSR. IIT. IIM. You get the drift.
