Is True Consent Even Possible?

Musk shows up to a pool party with his wife. She’s completely naked.
Kanye attends the Grammys with Bianca. She’s completely naked.

Neither is being dragged. Neither is imprisoned. Neither is being physically forced. Both have agency, wealth, and independence.

Then, there are Muslim women who wear the burqa, claiming it is their choice. Educated. Smart. Independent. No guns to their heads. No visible force.

There are women who deliberately travel abroad to find out their unborn baby’s gender so they can abort a girl. Again, no coercion. No lack of awareness. They know what they are doing.

So, here’s the question: Do you truly, deep down, believe all of them are making choices of their own free will?

Or is something deeper at play?

If you think this veers into social conditioning, perhaps even brainwashing, then let’s take it further: Why do you wear clothes in hot weather?

Seriously. Strip down. The temperature is perfect. A hat for the sun, shoes for the road. That’s all you need. But you won’t. Because society has decided clothes are non-negotiable (in most places). We don’t just wear them; we’ve made laws to enforce that we do.

It’s just that we have drawn the line differently for how naked we can be, depending on time, place, and culture. These women have simply drawn it elsewhere. Or have they?

If Grimes and Bianca were at a private event, where no one complained, who decides whether they are victims or free agents? Same for Muslim women in burqas. Same for the woman aborting her girl child where it’s legal.

Where do we draw the line? Who gets to decide which choices are genuine autonomy and which are deep-rooted programming? Is there even such a thing as truly free will? Is consent ever truly uninfluenced?

Or am I missing something?

(Not taking a stand here. Genuinely curious. Looking forward to arguments on both sides. Just one request: Keep it civil, folks.)
