Trump’s Trench, USA.

For years, we’ve been told that true libertarianism has never been tried. That there’s no real-world example of a society free from government interference, income tax, and pesky international obligations. All we had were theories. And fiction.

No more.

With tax abolition, corporate feudalism, and an open embrace of oligarchic rule, the USA is about to run the closest thing to a live-action test of Ayn Rand’s fever dream. Galt’s Gulch, but in 4K. Or is that Trump’s Trench, 2K25?

Of course, Libertarians will argue it’s still not true libertarianism. That any failures won’t be the fault of the ideology itself. That it would have worked if only it had been implemented perfectly.

Which is exactly what religionists say when their fundamentalists go rogue. “Not real Islam. Not real Christianity. Not real Hinduism.” And sure, they have a point. Up to, well, a point.

But here’s the thing. If your ideology only works in a vacuum, never in reality, maybe the problem isn’t reality.

It’s the ideology.
