I live. And I learn.

Note that India is the most populous country in the world.

Interesting finding which I had never thought I’d need to consider before I plan a holiday: We are off on a motorcycle ride sometime around Christmas, and so, were looking at non-touristy, cool (like in temperature) places with scenic routes within 500-600km of Pune. Now, while there are many places we could potentially go to, the ‘Unmarried couples not allowed’ and ‘Alcohol consumption prohibited’ rules for hotels make our choices so limited that there literally are places we cannot visit in 21st-century India!

Sometimes, I think I’ve seen it all. And then, I realise I still haven’t. Sigh!

P.S.: Apparently, the hotel booking apps have realised that this is a problem that needs a solution and have a button called ‘Couple friendly’ that you can select to show you only properties where one may not have to explain or prove that one has a government licence, and therefore permission, to share a room with another consenting adult to simply book a room for the night. Indeed, there’s a whole business model (OYO) based on this. But it does feel cringey, and honestly, a bit dirty selecting this button while looking for a place to stay.
