We go to a summer camp where we can earn ‘Flourish Bucks’ for completing tasks throughout the week and then spend them on Friday on fun stuff. This is not something we can just buy with money. We have to earn them. That makes them very precious.
There was some confusion about the count in our wallets this morning, and one kid ended up with less than she had. We knew who had taken them, most probably accidentally, but we could not tell. So, we pretended to look for it and then, took a buck out of our stash and lied to our friend that we found it on the ground.
This lie has been eating us up since then, and as soon as Baba bear picked us up today, we just had to tell it to him because we knew lying is bad and presumed he’d be very upset.
Turns out that there are good lies and bad lies. And this one was a good lie because it made our friend happy without hurting the other, even if we had to spend a buck to make this happen. Baba bear told us that he was proud of us for ‘doing the right thing’ and that if we grew up to ‘do the right thing’ even when and even if it cost us something dear to us, even if it resulted in a personal loss, or caused us to take a hit or suffer hurt, he and Mamma bear would have succeeded in being good parents.
And we got a HUGE bear hug. Best buck we spent today!
