Wasn’t going to share this video, but the amount of mockery it has attracted has led to this post.
You see, this WhatsApp Uncle isn’t an anomaly. He is all around us. You are not, in fact, laughing at him. He is laughing at you. In the distant past which we have now forgotten, he was in the shadows, a caricature, an exception to the rule. No more. He is the rule now. Indeed, he is the ruler. And he makes the rules.
He is in the legislature. He is in the judiciary. He is your local policeman. He is the soldier on the border. He is the journalist. He is your teacher. He is your doctor. He is your lawyer. He is your shopkeeper. He is your friend. He is family.
And he isn’t misinformed. You are. So, stop laughing at him. And take a look at yourself. And the society you inhabit. The society that is run by him. Where you are but a butt of jokes. You are the clown who’s wearing clothes in a nation increasingly proud of its nakedness. You are the village idiot. You are the silly man raging at the tornado. You are the misguided fellow tilting at the windmills. You are all that is wrong with this country and this society. You are the enemy. You are the problem. You need to correct your ways. You need to see the light. Not him.
Funnily, that’s not the so-called new India. That’s the old India. Now, without the wrapper of shame, conscience, or filter on the outside. And without a soul on the inside.
