In the ongoing WACKy Talks, last Saturday, Kymaia interacted with Aarti Aney, theatre personality and storyteller.
Aarti brought in her little one, Kaahini, slightly younger than Kym, to the talk. The two of them started off a bit shy, but hit it off eventually.
There were games, and a lot of fun was had while learning how to construct a story and how to tell it. Aarti introduced Kym to a very interesting concept: ‘Drama Jar’. This is a jar where, from time to time, people put in little notes with descriptions of situations, like ‘Birthday Party’ or ‘A Visit To The Zoo’ or ‘Bank Robbery’, and then, on a weekend or when the family has some free time, each one reaches inside, picks a chit, and then decides whether they’ll act it out, mime it, sing it, describe it, or tell a story around it to everyone else!
Then, there was ‘word tennis’ in which one person says a word, and the other says the first thing that comes to their minds. We played it after the session, and it was a blast!
It was a great idea to have Kahini on the session. I think Kym’s engagement level and enjoyment of the entire talk was enhanced (as, I am sure, was Kahini’s) because of this. Aarti knows children :-). She also knows her profession. It was perhaps the most enjoyable session Kym’s had till date, perhaps only because of Kahini’s presence.
