You know that scene in Matrix (he later reprises that line in John Wick 3, but that’s beside the point here) in which Neo answers the question as to what he needs with,
and suddenly an entire warehouse of arms and ammunition comes sliding out of nowhere and he finds himself standing in the middle of this instant armoury? Well, now that I think of it, while to the rest of the world, that must have been a breathtaking shot worthy of cinematic gold, I think some (?) Americans might have been rather underwhelmed by the poverty of weapons in that scene, and would probably be forgiven to have thought, ‘Seems the Wachowskis were either operating on a shoestring budget, or lacked imagination, or, and this is most likely, didn’t understand what the character, who is clearly demanding lots of guns, meant.’
Americans, you know, while this could have been a national quirk that could have resulted in some good-natured ribbing and one-liners, I hope you realise that when children start getting killed on a regular basis over two decades of gun violence, it stops being funny. This stopped being funny a long while ago. And now, there’s no punchline.
