I received this on a WhatsApp group a few moments ago, and it caught my eye out of the various other pro-Modi, BMKJ posts because of who had sent it.
You see, I may forgive gladly if it was today’s 20-some-year-old kid for posting this because they know nothing of India and the long history of friendship with the erstwhile Soviet Union, Nehru and the concept of non-alignment, Indira and the 1971 war in which the Indian position was strengthened by the then USSR, the role of Indian peacekeepers with the UN over the years and the reputation of Indians abroad generally as peaceful people from the land of Gandhi, or indeed any history at all.
But when an almost 70-year-old military veteran who has served in Iraq (as an instructor on Soviet aircraft) and trained in the erstwhile USSR with the Red Army posts it in your WhatsApp group, what does one say, except that this person has unstuck his rational thinking abilities, and even lived experience, and laid it at the feet of Modi at the altar of hate? When this same person calls the Nehru jacket a Modi jacket, what can you infer except he is out of his frigging mind? When people like him proclaim that India was totally ignored and not even known abroad before the advent of his Supreme Leader, what can one conclude except that this person has taken leave of his senses?
It pains me. No, truly it does. How have we lost our collective minds for this illiterate uneducated buffoon that we cult worship him as if he’s the best of us?
P.S: I have nothing to say about the actual goings-on in Ukraine because the only things we Indians need to focus on are how it affects us, whether in terms of inflation, our borders with China, or the safety of our citizens abroad. Whatever the foreign ministry is doing is continuing our policy of non-interference and staying out of international conflicts, which has been the same since independence, and put in place by none other than Jawaharlal Nehru. So, to be honest, I am happy with our response. This post is not about that.
P.P.S: I don’t even know if the meme is true. But looks more or less what the Russians, or anyone, would do.
