Random question (New Year 2022)

When was the last new year’s party you were invited to or (you) paid to attend, dressed up for, drank, danced, ate, counted down the last 10 seconds, and kissed your partner to whoops of ‘Happy New Year, everybody’, somehow stumbled home, woke up late, and did not regret it?

I’ll go first. 31 December 1999 – 01 January 2000.

It was at the Army Officers’ Institute in Juhu, and the entire Gadgil family was there. The atmosphere was grim until we heard that the Kandahar hijack negotiations had been successfully (?) concluded and the IA Airbus had taken off towards India. It was a riot after that. We must have listened to and danced on, JLo’s ‘Waiting for tonight‘ a dozen times. I remember people being concerned that the world will end due to the Y2K bug, and I remember the family hug we all had when the senior officer there announced the news of the ending of the hijack. I can never forget that night.

But since then, there has been not one NYE that has matched it. Not even come close.
