Happy silver jubilee, Apollo 11.

The Apollo 11, carrying the Eagle and 3 crew, lifted off on 16 July 1969.

It would be 25 years today.

This was subsequently followed by the Eagle landing on the Moon on 20 July 1969, and then the homecoming of the first humans to walk on a surface other than on Earth, on 24 July 1969. Neil Armstrong, as part of his Personal Preference Kit (PPK), carried a piece of wood from the Wright brothers’ 1903 Wright Flyer’s left propeller and a piece of fabric from its wing. Those were heady days for humanity.

I think we seem to have largely forgotten how to dream impossible dreams. Or have we all grown collectively old?

On a (somewhat) unrelated note, why did NASA have sports-like commentators for a rocket launch?
